I use Outlook Express (6.0.6 for Vista) after the last automated update
(September 9 @ 3:00AM) I am unable to receive or send e-mail. I get the
above error on send and this: An unknown error has occurred. Account: 'Name',
Server: 'Server>>>>>>>>>>>', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No,
Error Number: 0x80004005 when receiving. I have deleted my name and such.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Tried a system restore, no luck.

There is no Outlook Express for Vista. Vista has a newer email program
called Windows Mail.

We can't do much troubleshooting without your mail server name.

Sorry about that.
The server name is: Server: 'pop.bawk.phub.net.cable.rogers.com', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x80004005
You are correct it is Windows Mail.
Thanks for the response. Any help would be appreciated.
I have set up my e-mail on my wifes machine (not ideal) and it comes in fine.

Gary, thanks for the advice.
I did delete and recreate and restart. No change.
I did not think it was important to list my other e-mail account with
another provider (mail.northwingroup.ca) but this also does not work.
Mail will check the accounts and see that e-mail is available then when
trying to download the mail (if mail exists on the server) I get the error,
if no mail is present all appears normal wsith no error message.
I am also unable to send any mail as the error comes up saying "This message
cannot be sent"
Any other thoughts?
Thanks again,
Ed

Gary:
Sorry for the addtional message. I just went to check a mail that I sent
and it shows nothing in my sent box (although the count shows over 1,000).
The Drafts, Junk, Deleted all show the proper way, just the sent box shows
"their are no items in this view".

Did you try the alternate settings given in that URL link?

In the past, the 0x80004005 error has been associated with mailbox
corruption on the server, but if the same account can be accessed
successfully on your wife's machine, that would rule out a server issue.

Which antivirus are you running? Some of them cause problems with
Windows Mail over time. Make sure it is not configured to scan emails.

The program WMUtil fixed the whole thing right away!
It found a corrupted database item and fixed it.
Gary, thanks for your patience, I am back up and running thanks to you.
Kind regards,
Ed
