this item has not been retrieved from the server

Outlook 2002: I can not open and read my emails. They are in the inbox and
it shows the bits and bites for the message, but I get an error message
saying "This item has not been retrieved from the server". "Do you want to:"
o Unmark the header item; o Mark to download the message; "Mark to download
this message and leave a copy on the server"; "o Mark to delete this message
from the server".

What type of account? What happens when you mark to download the message?
