"This folder is shared with other people".......

Just wanted to find out if anyone has solved this problem before I Max-Blast
my HD and re-install.....

Since installing RC-1, I am getting a few annoying message boxes popping up
on a consistent basis. The message box appears at 2 different times:

Message = "This folder is shared with other people - Deleting the folder
will" (I forget what it says deleting the folder will do), but I am not
trying to delete anything whenever the message box appears

1. The first one appears every time I close Windows Mail and refers to a
folder, "ppcrlui_xxxx", located in
c:\users\currentusername\AppData\Local\Temp - The xxxx is different
(random?) numbers.

This folder is created by the system and is *not* shared, and I am not
trying to delete it when the message box appears, I am just trying to exit
from Windows mail. If I leave the folder alone, another one is created next
time I open Windows Mail. And another. And another..........

2. Whenever I start windows I get the same message box, this time referring
to a folder : "WPDNSE", also located in
c:\users\currentusername\AppData\Local\Temp

This folder is not shared, either, and I am not trying to delete it.

If I do delete these folders, they just reappear.

I did a scan with Windows Defender in Vista, booted into XP and did complete
scans with Windows Defender, Spybot, Ad Aware, and Norton Anti-Virus 2006 -
Nada.

Did a web search, and saw a few references tot WPDNSE, but not really the
same situation as mine and no mention of Vista. No hits at all on a folder
named "ppcrlui-xxxx"

Anyone run into this

I had this happen last night for the first time. I had just installed
Perfect Disk 8 (beta) for Vista RC1 and thought it was related to the
install. I deleted the folder and have not rebooted since then so I
don't know if it will return...

Just an update on this:

I used XP to delete, re-create and format the HDD (for some reason, this
seems to be different from choosing these options from within the Windows
setup), Did another clean install, and EVERYTHING works perfectly now. In
addition to the WPDNSE thing and the ppcrlui_xxxx thing being gone now, a UI
graphics glitch with the taskbar disappeared as well.

I am starting to think that a format (maybe even a zero-fill) should be a
routine part of every installation, and that maybe a lot of problems you see
posted here would not even be happening at all if the drive was formatted
prior to install. Not sure whether this phenomenon is the fault of
Microsoft for not having the setup program eliminate all traces of a prior
OS or if maybe it is just a characteristic of HDDs.

I get these as well. I think it has to do with Windows Mail(?) but I'm not
sure. I haven't seen any operating issues yet that other than the annoying
message now and then.

ppcrlui.dll is the Passport Client UI Library

WPDNSE is Windows Portable Devices Namespace Extension

According to a post here:
http://forums.wugnet.com/vista/Error-Windows-Vista-ftopict12014.html from
a MSFT person, the later is a known bug to be fixed in Vista RTM. Perhaps
the ppcrlui bug is caused by a similar situation. It would be a good idea
to file both bugs to make sure someone looks at them.

Thanks for the update. Unfortunately I can't repro.

Update, these appear to have been fixed in 5728.

Hi,
I figured this out but it takes a little work.
If you go into windows explorer first you need to go the the
menu bar on top where it says "organize" drop that down
Click on folder and search options, then view, then hit the
radio button that says "show hidden files and folders" and hit OK
Then go the the folder
C:\Users\account name\AppData\local\temp\WPDNSE
The account name in the above path stands for all the user names
that have limited account access, except the one you're signed in under.
You have to go to this folder "WPDSNE" for each account name, they all have
one.
When you get to the above folder right click on it and choose properties and
then click on the security tab and then edit and on the permissions deny
control
(check all deny boxes, if you check the top one all of them will check.) to
all the limited user accounts. Don't do it for admin accounts or system
account or the
account you're signed in under at the time you edit this folder permission
You then sign on to all the other accounts that are getting this popup
and do the same but don't do it for the account you're signed under.
You only deny permission to the accounts you're not signed in under.
If you do this with each account you'll eventually cover them all.
I only had two accounts so I only had to do it twice.
It sounds hard but once you do the first folder you'll get the hang of it
quickly.
It workedfor me I hope it works for you...good luck
