Of course it's a scam.

Nobody gets anything for nothing.

General rule of thumb:

If you don't recognise the address, delete it.

Simple.

Or even better use Mailwasher to reject it, giving the sender the impression you don't exist.

Is mail washer compatable with Microsoft Outlook 2003?

And I have deleted it.

How did they get my email address though?

Mailwasher

The freebie version allows you to block/allow mail from one e-mail address.

The paid for version allows you to block/allow from unlimited e-mail addresses.

I'm using it with Outlook 2003 :thumb:

RTFM ;)

I have an older version, and it was a little tricky to configure, have to admit.

Open the program and as I remember you have an option to import e-mail account details from Outlook.

Or you manually add all the details the same way as you set your accounts up in Outlook 2003.

But, seriously, if you can't suss it out (and I managed to and I'm no great shakes at Software) read the manual :)

Good luck.

PS: Once you have it set it up, you use Mailwasher all the time to open e-mail. Anything that looks iffy, tick the boxes to block and and bounce it, then click 'Process mail'

Although I only have an older version that doesn't work in Vista, I expect the using of it will be similar.

Like I said, I have an older version of Mailwasher, not V6.1 (don't ask me why I can't upgrade it ;) )

But yes, with the version I have, those two proggies are often open at the same time, no prob for me.

I'm using XP Pro SP3 with all updates applied.

You could switch to Googlemail which has an excellent system for blocking emails. You set up a filter and any emails from dodgy email addresses will be blocked and automatically deleted. Works really well. :thumb:

Oh I see, you minimize it to the tray, the little "plug hole" icon.

I have to admit I don`t get any YET:D BT Hub+Vista.

As long as anyone using BT if you configure it at BT-Yahoo mail it stops them before they get to you, all you have to do is check periodically that it is only spam they are stopping as I stopped getting PCreview replies earlier in the year then had to allow them at BT-Yahoo :thumb:

I have four mail accounts:

1) My ISP - Zen
2) PC Review account
2) Bitbenderforums account
3) G_Mail account

I was getting huge amounts of spam, mostly to my ISP address as that's the one I use most often, purchasing online etc.

All that despite my using G_Mail. G_Mail, does, incidentally, block lots of spam, it's very good indeed :thumb:

Very very rarely get spam to my forum accounts.

Since using mailwasher, however, spam is down to at most two a day, sometimes none at all for a few days.

Spammers soon cross you off their list when their advert for Viagra/Extra length/online meds/fake rolexes/double glazing/why? is bounced straight back at them.
