Things have turned black - how do i fix???

Heres a brief and somewhat incomplete list of things that have turned
completely black on my computer:
Start menu
The bar at the bottom of the screen (i forget what it's called)
Right click menu
All XP windows (my documents, my computer)
NEXT, CANCEL, OK, and buttons of the like
Selected text (not like inverted black with white text, but a total block of
black)
All tool bars
And various programs (not enemy territory, though. weird)

Anything I can do about this? I tried to go right click on the desktop >
properties > appearence ...but the entire "properties" window was totally
black i managed to try to map out where the buttons would be if i could see
them by using another computer next to mine and figuring it out like that,
but nothing changed.

Please help?

P.S. Heres a link to a screenshot. its kind of small, but its the best i
could do

Boot into Safe Mode.
Tap F8 as the computer is booting.

if you can view things normally in safe mode, then I would look at apperance
settings more, and themes, change back to a standard theme/color scheme
if still nothing, then update your video drivers.
