Advice plese on 4 items in add/remove 1- I updated Java to TM6 update 2 and
it is in add/remove along with Sun Download Manager. Is the latter necessary?
2- Can I simply remove Windows live one care safety scannner as not used? 3-
I have windows media player which I use. Question is do I need the Quicktime
I see here - I am confused what is necessary for voice and what is for video.

Nope, it's fluff. Uninstall it. If you have a dial-up connection, it
provides for resuming an interrupted download. There are plenty of
other download managers available so you don't this particular one. If
you are high-speed on cable/DSL then it is highly unlikely that you need
any download manager.

It didn't come with Windows. You had to install it. If you don't want
it anymore, uninstall it.

Only if whatever remaining media players already include support for
Quicktime files, or if you never play those types of files (and never
visit a web site that uses them). If you are that desparate for disk
space, uninstalling programs won't give you enough headroom to keep from
running into disk space issues. Start looking at getting another hard
drive or a bigger one.

You are using Windows. You can download the files for any OS version of
Quicktime but you won't be able to *install* anything other than the
Windows version of Quicktime.

Um, by the way, I don't use Apple's Quicktime. Their freebie player
will periodically shove an advertisting banner in your face asking if
you want to update (that is, PAY) for their Pro version. I only want
the freebie player but I don't like bannerware. So I use Quicktime
Alternative Player instead. Some might recommend the VLC player but
I've had problems playing supposedly supported media formats within a
browser.

I feel guilty; after all your help which I really appreciate I prematurely
removed Q.T. -The machine seems to run ok and I can only hope if needed Q.T.
