Gary, like most of us, is an unpaid volunteer.
If I were you, I'd check out those rogue ants.

Incredible that Gary gets paid for this. I get this error also. I am a
programmer and I know what I am doing. It is not specific to the type of
attachment, it is any attachment. Can't save them, can't send them.
Cleaned
the system with PC Tools, ran Process Explorer to identify ant rogue
dlls.
No luck with anything. What crap!

First of all Gary does not get paid for answering in these newsgroups. It is
strictly volunteer .
Secondly the reason that you are having this issue as you describe is because of a
security or AV program that still has a hold on your system. If you ever had Norton
or a Symantec or a MacAfee program installed then you would need their removal tool
to remove all their remnants even if you thought you had uninstalled it completely.
Below is their removal tool and feel free to use them, Also disable all the scanning
tools that are being used at present

Normally I don't contribute anything more after experts have responded, but
I will join in here.

Have you heard the cliché; something about knowing enough to be dangerous?
Just because you have written some programs, that does not make you
qualified to understand the highly complex and advanced requirements of a AV
program. I get the impression that you are smart enough and know enough to
use your intelligence to be ignorant.

I am suddenly getting this error message. I have been able to save
attachments for years, and now suddenly I get this error. I did have a sort
of crash last week, and wonder where to start looking for the trouble. can
anyone who is not fighting with each other, help me? (I think I saw the lady,
who originally asked this question running and screaming in the night) I do
appreciate anyones time who can help. I realize we all have limited times.
Thank you for yours.

What is the exact error message you get?

Which antivirus are you running? Some of them cause problems with
Windows Mail over time.

Shopmobility, "Mike" did not provide a solution in this thread.
Peter Foldes and myself did.
