"There is no disk in drive a.." 3 1/2 floppy

Widows XP Home with all updates etc. I reinstalled an Iomega zip to
recover/copy some files. Not certain if my A dribe decided to stop then or
because of an unrelated issue. I put in a floppy and receive "There is no
disk in drive a, insert and retry." 3 1/2 floppy/A drive properties- file
system RAW, used, free and capacity all 0. Location 0 (0) Unable to format.
It is enabled and claims to be working properly, The drive apparently is not
recognized at startup, or at least the disk in the drive doesn't result in a
prompt.
Thanks

No that has no effect. I can say that when I click the drive icon (right or
left) the speed is much slower. The device manager seems normal. I've done
the troubleshooting etc. I'm suspecting the fact that the comp. doesn't
recognize the drive at startup (as evident by not needing to remove the disk).

That's most likely a hardware conflict between the two drives. Remove
the Iomega to confirm this.

The Iomega site should have support pages that will certainly discuss
this; it's probably a common problem.

You physically removed the Zip Disk and the floppy still didn't work?

I have tried both of those with no luck. This doesn't come up when I startup.
The drive shows in my computer but when I right click the icon there is no
menu option.
If I try to save to disk I get the message there is no disk in drive a. It
was working pre an attempt at a repair install of xp. However i need a floppy
for 'sata' so I can actually do one. I did manage an "upgrade" install which
fixed most of my problems. However since then, I believe, is when I lost my
floppy drive. Thanks for trying.
