Themes

I love the Aero theme and just thought that maybe Microsoft should release
some more themes in an update, optional of corse.
I know the themes from 98 to XP to Vista have changed loads but thought that
maybe it would be good for people to their desktop look different to everyone
elses, maybe even release a program that people can change or make a new
theme, adjust the blur, animations and everything.
It's just i think its lame that everyone has to stick to very default themes
or wait ages for someone to make a patch so you can use your own theme or one
you've which never looks that good anyways.

Who with me on this? We need to break down the wall of factory settings and
make things look the way we want them to look.

Thankyou for reading and post back if you aggree with me. :)

1) there are already patches that enable custom themes for vista
2) stardock windowblinds
3) They dont want people to customize their computers.. in fact they are
making that harder and harder (see all the restrictions in the toolbars of
IE7 and windows explorer)
Because for them customization is a headache....for support and other
reasons.

Windowblinds is crap, you don't get those snazy effects like blury borders or
live thumbnails, flip 3D, live alt+tab thumbnails. and don't say anything
about WindowFX for the animations, that is just stupid.

As far as i'm aware Microsoft only seem to be in this game for the money,
shame everything works so well on it. I use Linux and also want to get a Mac
but loads of programs i use don't work on them.

Windows should be more customizable so that it's users can have things their
way. I hate default!!!

This is for Microsoft to read: You have more money than ideas and some how
you'r still seem to be winning but open source software will take over soon,
just you wait. If you have a look at the amount of freeware out there its
still growing, and i for one is all for it as i also contribute towards it.

hey i agree... but linux needs more work still... i just installed feisty..
hoping that it would work well out of the box...

I cannot install thunderbird 2.0 easily or configure my dual monitors
easily....
and even if I did.. I can run my favorite programs on it, beacuse they are
not ported to it...

I think I will try mandriva that also came out recently.. I mandriva always
was better than ubuntu....
ill give that a go too....

What "game" should Microsoft be playing? A publicly traded corporation is in

Start your own company, write your own code and just try to satisfy your

Go for it! There are a lot of variations! By-the-way, have you ever tried to
get the writers of the freeware to allow you to have your way with their
code?

The only thing that needs more work is the thing sitting between your
monitor and keyboard.
I cannot install thunderbird 2.0 easily or configure my dual monitors
easily....

Wait for Thunderbird 2.0 to hit the repos. Configuring dual monitors isn't
too difficult, but it depends on the graphics card you're using.
and even if I did.. I can run my favorite programs on it, beacuse they are
not ported to it...
I'm assuming you're talking about your favorite Windoze programs. Open up
the repos in Synaptic and you'll find over 20,000 software packages. Surely
there are things there that can replace your Windoze programs.
I think I will try mandriva that also came out recently.. I mandriva
always was better than ubuntu....

Bullshit. But go ahead, have fun. And don't forget to take out
a "membership" with Mandriva so you can get all their goodies.
ill give that a go too....
You do that. Rather than putting some effort to learn a new operating
system, just keep installing different distros until you find one that
works just like Windoze. Oh wait, why bother ... you already have Windoze.
Just use it.

Love and Kisses,
Doris

production
programs for video and music...

I know the ones that are opensource and they stink more than you.. and that
means a horrendous stench.

Mandriva is better you fool.. always was always will be.. mandriva free is
opensource totally...
no pay ... and if you are smart, you are not but anyway, you can find ways
to install anything you like in mandriva.. you ubuntu slave you...

oh also you can cut the crap with that nick because we all know you are not
a girl but some pervert
who goes around using a girl name and think its cool...

WindowBlinds is the best way to change the visual style of Vista or XP for
that matter. I don't know what you mean by you can't get flip3D, I don't
believe you are talking about WindowBlinds there as it does not interfere
with the normal operation of Vista.

In WindowBlinds 6 you will be able to control transparency and blur effects
in Vista.

Not all of the WindowBlinds skins are "Vista" skins. If you are running a
non-vista skin, that was written for the old gdi, then Aero will turn off.
You'll be fine if you stick to the skins written for Vista, though they are
still small in number at this point.

WindowBlinds uses the DWM just as Aero does. It should not affect things
like Flip3D, and most older WindowBlinds skins work great in Vista.
