"The workstation date and time could not be set"

Mike

I am wondering about the "Workstation Date and Time" error
message on the client results screen. I found the TID that
explains it being a problem with the user not having admin
access rights to his/her machine. It advises you to
install the latest NetWare client and service pack. I am
using Win2K for my OS. I have installed the latest client
and service pack and I am still getting this error. Is
there a way around this? Is this error causing real
trouble?

Thanks
Mike

Hi Mike,

either:

a) Change your group policy to give users the right to change the system
time (which members of the Power Users and Administrators groups have by
default), or

b) in Novell Client Properties, Advanced Settings tab, change "Set Station
Time" to "Off".

Be careful with the second option - it can cause problems if the workstation
time falls out of sync with the network (although NetWare won't itself care,
users can get confused if nothing else).

If you've got the Windows Time Service correctly configured on the
workstations you can safely use the second option.
