The Word document map should not AutoFormat text.

I'm working on a large document with a very detailled structure already
defined, and find Document Map's autoformatting of short blocks of bold text
(which I specifically don't want as headings) to level 1 headings every time
I open the document to be very frustrating.

I know that an alternative exists in Outline View, but that's not quite what
I'm looking for (a clickable guide to the document, not an overview of my
headings).

Looking around the forums, it doesn't seem that there's any way to stop
Document Map doing this, and opinion seems divided on whether this is a
"feature" or "bug". An option to turn it off would be fantastic, because
AutoFormatting spoils what would otherwise be an extremely useful feature.

Does this still happen if you disable "Define styles based on your
formatting" on the AutoFormat As You Type tab of Tools | AutoCorrect
Options.

Thanks for your reply, that was something I hadn't tried. Unfortunately, it
was already disabled. I also tried disabling everything under "Apply" on the
"AutoFormat" tab, but it still happened.

As best as I can work out, it only happens when the document loads (ie, if I
didn't close the document map before I closed the document), not if I simply
open up the document map. I don't know if that's significant.
