Hi everyone,
On Win 2k Server, sp2.
I am trying to install and/or uninstall an application(
in house developed), which I have developed several times,
but now I am getting the above mentions message.

Some one please help what should I do. I am a developer,
not a windows master. This happens when I right mouse
click on appname.msi file, and then select install or
uninstall, I get this message.

There was a powere down on this server, this could have
done some damage. If, so what is the solution?

Thanks,
Mashraf.

This error can occur if the Windows Installer gets damaged. Try
reinstalling the INSTMSIW.EXE from here:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads

(Select Windows Installer from the list and install v 2.0)

Here is another option:

If those don't work, check the eevent log for clues and write back.

incorrect DCOM settings were causing this. I mistakenly
set the connect to impersonate. Setting it back to connect
solved the problem. However, I did unregister and register
it back to be safe.

Thank you very much every one.
