The "Unknown" Office Suite

At least unknown to me. When someone asks for an alternative to
Microsoft Office, they generally here about Open Office or 602 Office.
There were several threads recently about word processors that handle
..rtf files. I found Budgie Office. It does word processing, database,
spreadsheet, and several other tasks. And its free. Available here

I haven't played with it yet, but it looks promising.

There was some discussion of Budgie in this forum late last fall. I
believe that the consensum among those who experimented with it, was
that the programme had an attractive interface, that it was promising,
but attempted to take on too many tasks without doing any of them well;
and was too buggy in its then-current version. But please let us know
how you make out.

"Because of the decline in value of the US dollar against Sterling we have
changed our upgrade pricing. To register Budgie 1.7 will now cost £50 (50 UK
pounds)."

Mentioned on their support page..........

I know it's not too cool to reply to yourself, but only the older
version is free. Still looks ok though.

The program's official web page says it was upgraded recently
(Budgie 2004 ver.1.8, 6 Apr 2004).
<http://www.modesoft.com/upgrades.htm>
Budgie 2004 ver.1.8, 6 Apr 2004 is a PAY ($$$) upgrade.
The upgrades link is certainly NOT what I would call freeware.

" Budgie2004
The current version of Budgie2004 is the 1.8 upgrade from the free
Budgie1.6. We have renamed it so that if you try out the upgrade and
don't like it (or don't want to pay to register it) you can uninstall it
without losing Budgie 1.6. Budgie2004 uses your existing data files and
your personalised settings, so you have nothing to lose by giving it a
try."

However version Budgie version 1.6 is freeware, available at...
