The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation.

Using XP Pro, latest updates applied from MS Update site.
I have an issue where I am getting an error 'The System
Administrator has set policies to prevent this
installation.' when I try to install software, fix
Outlook issues or other tasks. I have been looking for
reference to this specific issue and am only getting a
reference to Norton ANtiVirus 2001 which I have never had
on my computer. Can someone help?
Thanks.

Hi

Verify that the registry value DisableMSI under the key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer

is NOT set to 1 or 2 (if it doesn't exist, it will default to 0 for
WinXP or earlier)

If it is set to 1 or 2, change it to 0.

Machine Policies: DisableMSI

Torgeir,

I must bow to your Wisdom and grant you 3 wishes if we
should ever meet! You are top of my list and I can not
thank you enough for your help. Thank you, Thank You,
THANK YOU!

How would this setting have mysteriously have changed
recently? What is the reason for this being changed, any
ideas?

Again, my deepest gratitude to your assistance and
kindness! Thought I was going to have to re-install OS!

Glad I could help you :)

I have no idea of what could have changed this setting for you,
I just know it happens for some now and then (based on newsgroup
postings).
