Has anybody given it a shot? If so, how does it compare with WordWeb?

Well, I just installed and ran it. Here's what I think:

1. It would be nice to be able to configure the shortcut to open the
program in a maximized window and have it work correctly.

2. The help file seems to be inaccessable from within the program
itself, and is a web page that opens in your default browser. I hate
this kind of help file.

3. The program keeps a "session history" of the words you have looked up
and there's no way to clean it other than to delete the "History.txt"
file in the program's main folder. This however, causes no problems and
a batchfile with a shortcut to it could easily be created for dealing
with this issue.

4. Otherwise, this is an excellent program and I very much recommend
that you download and install it.

There's no reason why you can't have more than one such program on your
computer.

Did you work out how to use the thesaurus?
I tried a misspelled word and Sage gave me no alternatives, whereas Wordweb
gave me a list in alphabetical order. Once I had corrected it, the
definitions were identical. 1 - 0 to Wordweb )

Above link took me to a 404 page.

Google gave me an alternative:
http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/TheSage_s_English_Dictionary_and_Thesaurus/thesage.html

For download Snapfiles redirected to:
http://www.kyoto-su.ac.jp/~gilner/_files/TheSage_Setup_1-0-5.exe

Now downloading from this site.

Thanks for calling this program to my attention, as well as WordWeb.

This is definitely a serious privacy issue because *all* text that one
cuts or copies (to the clipboard) automatically goes to The Sage and
becomes part of the history. My solution is to add The Sage's
history.txt file to my list of specific files to be deleted by IE
Privacy Keeper.

Not sure why that happened, since I just used that link to go there and
the page opened with no problems. Maybe the server was temporarily down.

Well, as Jim Scott has pointed out, it's just another (and more flawed)
interface on the same definition database that WordWeb:

http://wordweb.info/free/

uses. Frankly, I'm going to uininstall TheSage and go back to simply
using WordWeb.

For nouns, you click on the right button near the word "noun" and they
appear.

I typed in "chrysanthymym" and got a whole list of near words, just like
in WordWeb.

You're right. It does appear to be simply another interface for the same
data. Both come from Princeton University they say. Guess there's no
reason in keeping it on my system since Wordweb doesn't suffer from my
objections for the most part.

Thanks for your input.

Whoa!!
I've just discovered that TheSage will use wildcards eg. ?l?t?r?.
Only the paid version of WordWeb does this.
I don't think WordWeb does anagrams either; in which case I can get rid of
Wordsearch as well and of course the All Purpose Spell Checker although
that is nice and small.

Hmm. Well then, I'm glad I haven't removed it yet. Thanks for pointing
out these capabilities, Jim!

There is an easier way. When you want one of the items removed, go to
the tab and right-click on it. The tab will disappear...
