after editing "htky -current user -microsoft-etc-run" and deleting unwanted
keys when I reboot they get rewritten to the registry, things like
"googletoolbar notification" etc. It is very annoying. Help anyone?

Hi,

This is because the program itself is putting the entry back when it
is run. I know about that Google entry. The only way I know is to
uninstall the offending program, or, your anti-spyware program may
have an option to lock startup section/items. You should be aware that
some programs may not function if you force the deletion of the
startup item.

like the other responder
stated, the offending program
is simply reinstalling the keys.

however, the toolbar is likely
launching via the browser or
another freeware that you ok'd
to install the toolbar during installation.

what you might want to do is
to go to microsoft.com and
download "autoruns"

go to the browser (ie) tab
and disable the add-in
for it or all of them. I
disable all of them periodically
that way the ones i really
need and use will get reinstalled
later.

anyways, the disable a
line item in autoruns,
check the box then double
click the filename. the registry
will open up and provide you
with the new state of the keys
as disabled.

you may want to browse the
other tabs for google entries
as well.

reboot and see if you get
back to normal....

Yeah; uninstall it properly. It takes more than registry play to uninstall
some things.
