"THE" PINBALL ISSUE

I am having the same problem with the pinball game at
home as the last post about Pinball. I click on the game
and it exits automatically. I've gone to the windows NT
directory for pinball and it still does not start when I
try to open it from there. The problem started after I
was having a problem with my computer and I did a system
restore. Prior to the restore the game was working just
fine. I purchased the computer with Windows XP Home
addition already loaded on the system so I do not have a
Windows disk (at least I don't think I do). Please help
me solve my problem...this game keeps my kids so
entertained that I would really like to get it working
again, a.s.a.p. Thanks in advance!

Yes. I am the one who posted last on the 7/31 post and I
did see your reply. I made sure that all my antivirus
programs were disabled when I have tried starting Pinball
and I have kept all the definitions up to date. I DO
have a restore CD that came with my computer but I wasn't
sure if this was the correct CD to use as the definitions
of use on it were confusing, however it does say "Compaq
restore CD" or something like that. If this is the
correct CD to use could you please give me step by step
instructions on how to do this as I am afraid I may erase
very important files off my computer and I don't want to
reset it to the factory default (as the CD refers). Also
I don't have the "back up" feature under "System Tools"
as I was never told that it wasn't included in the XP
home addition and since my warranty has expired (it's
been a few years since purchasing my computer) I would
have to pay to have that installed. I have however
copied my "C:/" drive (where all my files are) to a
CD...would this be the same as a "back up"? Sorry for
the confusion and all the questions but I really don't
want to use the restore CD if it's going to remove ALL my
files and I don't have a correct back up system. Thanks

Okay. We should keep the subject in this thread. You keep bouncing back
and forth, and it is hard to keep track of. I don't have a Compaq computer,
but suggest you contact their support section via their web site to let them
instruct you.

Before doing that, though, When was the last time you ran your anti-virus
software with the latest definitions on your machine? Have you checked for
Trojans or parasites? You might want to look at the information here:

PROBLEM SOLVED...I DON'T NEED A DISK AS MY SYSTEM KNEW
THAT WINDOWS WAS ALREADY INSTALLED WHEN PURCHASED.

Good deal. Pinball is a "system" file, and even if it should be deleted by
accident, the system should restore it. What generally happens is the
"path" to that fill becomes messed up somehow, and pointing it to the
correct location fixes the issue.

A lot of times when you purchase a system, instead of an
actual Windows CD, you are given a recovery CD, which is
essentially a specially designed CD that will format your
hard drive and reinstall the OS just like it was when you
first bought it.

As far as pinball messing up, I'm not sure exactly why, I
don't mess with system restore points, the technology is
not solid.

The issue was resolved in another thread. I highly recommend using System
Restore. It has saved my hide several times.
