Pinball won't open

I try to play the Pinball game that came with Windows XP, but when I try to
open the game, only the games startup screen shows. After that, it kicks me
out without the game ever starting. Is there any way to reinstall the game?
Pinball doesn't even show on the add/remove programs in the Control Panel.
Can anyone please help me with this problem?

Thanks,
Richard A.

Tried reinstalling?

Control Panel / Add/Remove Windows Components / Accessories and Utilities /
Games. Uncheck, click ok reboot, then recheck and click OK.

Weird... Doesn't look like I've got Pinball listed here, but it *should* be
there. In the games description it's listed at least. So if it's not there
backup to the window with accessories and games listed and uninstall and
reinstall all of them.

I've tried going through the Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs/Accessories
and Games. I uninstalled and reinstalled everything but all games show
except Pinball. Is there anywhere to download it from? I've also tried
using the system restoral point but nothing seems to work. Please help!

Pinball is located in C:\Program Files\Windows NT\Pinball (pinball.exe), so
all you need do is right-click the desktop, select New/Shortcut/Browse and
then navigate to that folder (not the file itself), then OK your way back
out. You can either keep the shortcut on the desktop or drag it to wherever
you'd like.

Ok, I've gone ahead and done that and now the Pinball folder is on my
desktop. I double click on the folder and click on the Pinball itself but
only the startup screen that reads 3d pinball shows for a second and after
that disappears and the game never actually starts. Is there anything else
you recommend? Thanks for all your help.

Go into Windows Explorer, navigate to the folder location I posted and see
if you have a total of 60=some files there, including FONT.DAT, PINBALL.MID,
PINBALL2.MID, PINBALL.DAT and pinball.exe there. Try launching pinball.exe
by double-clicking it. Are you running XP SP2?

I've opened that folder and there are 68 files. I have matched the files
you've described except one. I don't see Pinball.exe, is that the one with
the actual Pinball icon? How can I check if I am running XP SP2?

In Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, do you have a check mark in "Hide
extensions for known file types"? If so, remove it, OK your way out and
take another look.

Ok, yes there was a check mark in "Hide extensions for known file types", but
I went ahead and unchecked it and ok'd my way out. What should I do now?

As I said, open Windows Explorer again, navigate to the directory I posted
and check for pinball.exe. If it exists there, double-click it. If that
works properly, you could right-click, drag that listing to your desktop and
release, it will ask if you wish to create a shortcut there and you do.

Yes, I do have all files in the Pinball folder. But when I try to open
Pinball.exe, the startup screen shows for a a couple of seconds then I'm
kicked off. Is there anything else I can do to fix this? I really want to
play this game!

Thanks
Richard
