"The Network Path was not found"

I have a small home network of two computers running xp home sp2.

When I am viewing my workgroup and I try to connect to one of the other
computers i get the following error:

"\\computername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this
network resource...

The network path was not found."

Also, when I use net view I am able to see the other computer on the network
but I am unable to ping it.

When i ping the other computer i get the following error:

"Ping request could not find host..."

Thank you in advance,

Erik

I am having the same problem. Try to remove the network devices in device
manager, and reboot. Otherwise, I am in the same spot!

Are you trying to ping by IP address or by name?

Are there any firewalls installed?

For both of you: this sounds very much like you have firewalls in place.
Put the lan IP range in the firewall Exceptions as Trusted. How you do
this depends on the firewall.

I was trying to ping the computer name.

I am using Windows Firewall that comes with SP2. It is set to allow exceptions

What happens if you ping by IP address?

I can sucessfully ping by IP, but not by name. For some reason, the name is
not being resolved. You do not need to run WINS anymore in XP with simple
networking, right? I am tapped out of ideas.

Alright... but i have set up a similar network that runs with windows
firewall on.
I just can't find out what is different between the two networks.
