The network name cannot be found.

I am trying to join a new machine running Win2K Pro to our
domain but am receiving the following error.

Your computer could not be joined to the domain because
the following error has occured:
The network name cannot be found.

I have set up the nic correctly as i can ping the dc and
get on the internet, i have added the new computer name to
active directory on the dc and get 75% of the way through
the process of adding it to the domain. When i use the
network identification wizard, i get up to the point where
i specify a domain username and password, and then the
machine says that it has found an account for the machine
name and do i want to use it? I click ok and continue,
it is at this point that i get the error. It is driving
me nuts.

Please help

Try deleting the machines account in the AD or renaming the machine... also
run newsid on the machine and try again...

also do you have DNS active on the DC?

It's got to be the name. Change the Name, restart and then connect. I get
this problem all the time coz we clone hard disks and therefore the
computers have the same names.
