The MSN Messenger Dance

This is kind of annoying:

I don't have MSN messenger set to open with windows, so
when I open up my hotmail account, the messenger icon
pops up. When I click on any link within the account
(inbox, junk mail, etc), the icon momentarily disappears,
and then returns when that link has fully loaded. This
little process noticeably slows down things, to the point
that I'm requesting a way around it in the newsgroups --
please advise if you have any ideas.
