the jumping cursor

The cursor in Word 2000, Microsoft Office, on a Gateway
9300 solo, jumps to a new location while I type--it jumps
up sometimes and other times jumps back into the middle of
another word. I have had this problem for months. Any
suggestions will be appreciated

Does the machine have a touchpad?

Thank you for the response. Yes, the solo 9300 does have
a touchpad but I don't use it much, especially when I am
typing documents. I don't let my wrist hit the pad when I
type.

It is almost certainly attributable to the touchpad. You only have to brush
it with the heel of the hand to cause the problem. If you don't use the pad,
turn it off in the BIOS.
