The < has disappeared

Liebach

In the process line (the bottom of the screen) to the right side the < has
disappeared so unused icons are not hidden anymore. Any suggestions will be
highly appriciated.

Right click an empty part of the Taskbar (this is the proper name for the
"process line" as you called it) and select Properties, then click the
Notification Area tab. The option to hide inactive icons is there.
