The desktop repaint after login and desktop shown for about 1 sec.

My system is Windows XP. The symptom is that in the log-in process after
the user gives password, the desktop shows up, then for about 1 sec, the
screen goes black and the desktop shows up again (not reboot), it looks like
it repaints the desktop. It happens since day one, i.e., after I got my new
laptop and setup the Windows XP. It happens for every user I created for
this system, including the "Administrator". My other laptop (also Windows
XP) does not have this problem. The system does not have virus (the
anti-virus program runs every day). Other than this annoying symption, the
system functions with problem.

Anyone has any idea and how to fix it?

I don't think that indicates a problem of any kind; simply something in
the order of the startups grabs the screen and blanks it while it does
something, who knows what, in the preparations. It might even be the
video card setting things up. I had it on my own system once for a few
months and IIRC running either UPHClean or another similar program that
I can't recall the name of but its purpose was to "defragment" the
registry (no registry changes; just a simple defrag process), took care
of it "accidentally". I was actually troubleshooting a shut-down
problem, which UPHClean repaired for me and the interim blank screen was
replaced with one slightly longer black screen with the mouse pointer in
the center of it.

That's probably not much help, but maybe it'll tick someone's memory;
it's the program I can't recall the name of that I think you need. Ah!
Might have been ntregopt! One source is:

Oh, and it's freeware. It may or may not help, but won't do any harm.

Twayne..., thank you for replying my question. As you said, it does not hurt
the system, just annoying. Since so far it does not give any problem, I am
not goint to do anything unless I know the absolute solution.
