the decoder timebomb

I also am a victim of this "decoder/codec timebomb" I have also verified
that it is DEFINATELY either a planned timebomb or it is an update received
yesterday (nov 14). I have vista RC1 installed on 3 different computers, and
ALL THREE of them developed the problem at the SAME TIME!!

I think it is also noteworthy to mention that when I was still running beta
2, the SAME problem developed, but by chance about a week after the problem
developed, I recieved my RC1 copy in the mail, installed it and "obviously"
the problem was gone then....JUST for it to come back later! THANK YOU
MICROSOFT! definately makes me want to go right out and buy this system...

I must say, I TRULY feel that vista has some wonderful features, and
comparing it to the past windows versions, I absolutely love it.....but then
THIS! WHY!? vista is to be publicly released on Jan 30th, so i have to
either switch back to XP and forget vista, or wait 2 months, dealing with
this problem, for the final public release.

Disappointed in Microsoft,

Ben

p.s. Microsoft, if by some chance yall do actually read these posts, PLEASE
offer a codec fix. these beta copies state to be good until july 07, but
what good is that offer if one of the most precious aspects of modern day
computing has been disabled?

OMG!! I too have the same problem on both of my machines running rc1. I tried
reinstalling rc1 on both machines to no avail. I also tried running the
nvidia purevideo decoders but I am experiencing major video/audio stutter on
my dvr-ms files, especially HD recordings. This sucks! I use MCE to record
shows, and especially HD material (with an ATI HDTV Wonder) on a daily basis
and now it's all over! Over I say!! I know, I'm a drama queen. Can someone
help? Oh yeah, I am running ATI's Radeon X1800 L with rc1 catalyst controler
too. Please help! Madonna's concert next week on NBC will be televised on HD
