The configuration registry database is corrupt.

I have an annoying problem and tried everything to fix it. On startup I get
this error :
-- The configuration registry database is corrupt.
It then gives me a countdown.
I have tried going into the user profile to delete any other ones there, but
there is only one, so this isn't the problem. I have downloaded updates etc.,
and still nothing. I must be missing a file or something. Can anyone help?
