What that behavior tells me is that the Fax Service is opening an Outlook
profile that contains an invalid reference to a Contacts Folder. When you
created a new profile, did you give it a unique name and delete the old
profile? If you set Outlook to prompt for a profile then launch it from the
Fax Service, what happens?

That's the way Fax should be programmed, but evidently not. Is there
something else I missed?
It seems you should still have been prompted for your profile or password.

Russ, remember from now on to ask if we have set a password for
Outlook. Dumb of me, I know. Should have realized another application
cannot get into the outlook.pst file if it requires a password to open
in Outlook. (I thought I had already tried setting the password to
blank at one time.) Well, I'm an expert on all this now. Thanks for
your help and patience. Let me know if you ever have any questions
about two topics I'm quite an expert on: music and stitching software
for scanning paintings, etc.
What that behavior tells me is that the Fax Service is opening an Outlook
profile that contains an invalid reference to a Contacts Folder. When you
created a new profile, did you give it a unique name and delete the old
profile? If you set Outlook to prompt for a profile then launch it from
the
Fax Service, what happens?

I'm prompted for it. I thought I had tested Fax with and without the
Outlook password set, so that's why I didn't mention it. I was
obviously mistaken about its effect. Hope this helps other people who
get the error message. It would help if Microsoft mentioned it on their

they would program Fax to ask for the password when it has been set in

people set a password. Lucky me! (for the time I wasted, and wasting
