Don:

This has been driving me crazy as well. Make sure you follow Pinoyin's
directions exactly. I think you may have skipped a step. I followed the
instructions and the error message is finally gone.

I had the same problem and this is how I got rid of it.

Under Tools, choose Trust Center.
On the left pane pick Add-ins.
From the bottom of the page under Manage drop down pick Client File
Extensions and press Go...
Unckeck the FaxExtensions and click OK
Done!

Do you know how I can remove the add-in per se?

You can always try deleting this key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Exchange\Client\Extensions
faxextension.dll
but it doesn't seem to work as consistently.

I changed the name of "extend.dat" to "extendold3.dab", rebooted, tried to
reply to an email and got the same error.

:

Try changing the file extension too.

Yes, that is the path. When I got into that folder, I saw the two
previous
"re-names" of extend.dat which were "extendold.dat" and
"extendold2.dat".
I
created "extendold3.dat" and upon the first try to reply to an email
there
was no error. After a reboot, when I tried to reply to an email, the
same
error recurred.

What path did you use to extend.dat?
Should be something like this:
<drive>:\Users\%UserProfile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook

Russ,
I am sorry to report that the same error message has recurred. This
happens
when I try to reply to an email in Outlook. Any suggestions?

Vista takes some getting used to. Some of the old reflexes from XP
just
don't work anymore.

You were right again! Its bad when you don't know what you don't
know.
I found the file, renamed it and the error message is gone.
Thank
you
very
much.

:

Keep trying. It's there. You most likely need to get up to speed
on
searching in Vista.

Viewing hidden files is enabled. Searching finds no match for
"extend.dat"
or for "Extend.dat".

I closed Outlook. My search for "extend.dat" and for
"Extend.dat"
resulted in "no files found".

Enable viewing hidden files and folders.

Thanks a million Pinoy......has driven me crazy for over a week and finally a
real fix for the problem. Had been searching for ever and turns out it was
so easy, but hard as hell to find the right answer.

Try This:
In outlook 2007, "Tools, Trust Center, Addins"; at the bottom of the page
will be a drop down which says "Manage: COM Add Ins". Select "Exchange
Client Extensions" and click on "Go". This will open the Add-in manager.
Deselect the option for Fax extension, click "OK", then close out of Outlook
and restart.

Hi PinoyinAbileneTX,

Perfectly working. Thanx
