Thanks Carey. I downloaded ad-aware and spyware doctor and they found lots
of nasty stuff and deleted it. However I'm still the only one who can logon.
The other users semm to logon successfully and then the window freezes.
Even when I create a new user account the same thing happens.
I begin to suspect a procees running in Task Manager called DRWTSN32.exe.
When I end it the screen frees up for a moment but it always comes back,
sometimes two at once. In another browser window CPU is running at almost
100% for explorer exe.

Still at a loss , I'm afraid.

Thanks

Declan

Did you run the tools in "Safe Mode"?

If you did, have you tried a simple "Repair/Reinstall" to see if that
restores your other functions?

As a side note, I've seen a number of things missed by anti-spyware
tools and by AV products.

You might try a couple of these tools if you have not already done so:

Sorry, hit send by accident, here are the tools list to try:

After you install any of these applications and update them, run them in
SAFE MODE to allow them to properly clean your system.

These sites are for downloading Anti-Spyware tools, in order that I
would use them myself:

AdAwareSE can be found here:
http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/

SpyBot Search and Destroy can be found here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/index.html

HiJack can be found here:
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Ewido Security Suite Trial can be found here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

CrapCleaner can be found at the vendors site here:
http://www.ccleaner.com/ccdownload.asp

CleanUp can be found at the vendors site here:
http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/download.html
or from another reputable source:
http://www.tucows.com/get/405276_152071

The following are two links to Antivirus software in order that I would
use them:

You can also download Symantec Trial version of their Antivirus software
from here:
http://www.symantec.com/downloads/

Download AVG Personal Free edition from here:
http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/2/

These are the actual vendors sites, not some unknown or authorized no-
name site.

About DRWTSN32.exe.
Description of the Dr. Watson for Windows (Drwtsn32.exe) Tool
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308538

Have you looked at the Error Reports in Event Viewer?

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Administrative Tools,
Event Viewer.
When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event
ID, Source
and Description are important.

HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;308427&Product=winxp

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the
error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a button
resembling two
pages. Double click the button and close Event Viewer. Now start your
message
(email) and do a paste into the body of the message. This will paste the
info from the
Event Viewer Error Report complete with links into the message. Make
sure this is
the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.
