The test is unzipped into your Xnews folder, where as the version is
the entire version. Upgrading Xnews is merely replacing the files in
the version you have, with those of the test version.

Wierd, how come my xnews version says 06.12.01 with an ending date of
2004 when this sounds higher than 5.04.25 ? Did the author start
renumbering or some such in 2005?

2002 version numbers started with 5, 2003 version numbers started
with 6, and the 2004 version number was 6.12.01. (There was only
one in 2004, the one you have got.) 2004 versions should have been
7.xx.xx, but Luu Tran apparently lost count, not having released a
new version in over a year. The versions released this year have all
started with ??, the latest being ??.01.30.
