Ah ! At last. A sensible answer. Thank you Fuzzy. Looks like Xnews is
still way behind Dialog etc.

Not at all. You can use any external editor with Xnews, the integration
is so well done it's as though you have a built-in spelling checker.
Using a very low footprint external program (Jarte) I detect little
difference in speed running a spell check than from programs that have
a spelling checker built in.

The TinySpell example given before, while it is a good universal
spelling checker, is a clunky method for checking spelling in
Xnews. It's better to link to a program via Xnews "Setup Xnews" control
panel under the "Compose" tab, then run your spell check via the Editor
window "Ext.Edit" button.

Because it doesn't have a spellchecker?

John is trolling. He has a set of programs he doesn't like and if you look
back over his posting history you'll see that when they are discussed he
periodically adds his tired old criticisms. Xnews's lack of spellchecker
for some reason repeatedly sets him off. And as before he asks a question
to which he knows the answer, purely to create a stink.

Dialog is undoubtedly where I'd go if I outgrew Xnews, but that event is
unlikely. After the initial learning curve, Xnews has proved itself to be
a sheer (if rather unconventional) delight.

John, if you don't like, or understand, a program then please just ignore
it.

One uses a program for a number of features. Lack of a spell checker
alone would probably not stop me using Xnews. Though it might do if it
started irritating me too much. Xnews is supposedly back in
development so I was wondering whether Luu was getting around to
making it as good as competing products. The answer apparently is
"no". From what I can see he is still ignoring a number of key areas.
Spell checking is one area. Offline newsreading is another. There are
other things as well.

Regards, John.
