thanks for nothing

I've posted 4 questions in these forums, questions that I think are decent
ones. But I'm not a computer expert, like a lot of you, so my questions must
have seemed too elementary to bother with, and no one lowered themselves to
help me out. As far as I'm concerned these communities are useless. So I'll
just try asking some friends instead. At least they usually have the decency
to tell me if I'm being dumb.

You people need to get some manners.

Which forums are you referring to?

I access these forums via Outlook Express newsreader and I see half a dozen
questions from you which have all received quality replies.

Chester,

I think you must be doing something wrong. All your questions have been
answered.

Are you using Vista, Windows Mail to see the messages? Do you see the
little + sign beside your messages? If you click on that, you can see all
the replies to your questions.

Also, if you click to the left of your message under the little pair of
glasses at the top of the column, that will designate your message as a
Watched Message. Then you can click on the glasses at the top to get all
the
messages to sort with the Watched messsages at the top. That way, when you
open up the Newsgroup, your questions will be at the top of the list and
usually it will be in BOLD font if there is a reply that you have not read.

I'm no expert but I find these newsgroups to be invaluable. As I said, ALL
your questions were answered.

Chester is using the web interface for the newsgroups. He probably will not
see these replies either.

That web interface needs to go to the junk heap!

you never get any answers on these newsgroups, unless you ask some stupid question like "how do i disable UAC". Where the hell are
the MS professionals? Shouldn't they be here to provide support?

Chester, if you aren't using Windows Mail as a newsreader to keep track of
your posts, add this link to your favorites:

Manners aside, it seems you've been doing fairly well getting answers. If
an answer doesn't work for you, refine your question(s). Give and take.
Reply and refine. In some cases, if no one has had your experience with a
problem, it can't be answered by the readers. But maybe in a few days a new
reader, or an old reader with new knowledge, can help you out. I think it's
generally understood that questions in these groups come from people with
varying aptitudes and skills. And each and everyone of us has started out
dumb...

Can we put vista in the junk heap huh, can we? Please? Pretty please?

It is not apparent to the people in here that if you could not see the other
replies, you would not see these replies also...

but anyway.. this reply is for them

I just looked at about 6 of your previous questions. Every one of them has
been answered.

Do you have a problem with the answers or can you just not find them? You
have to actively go back to your original post to seek the answers.

Every problem presents an opportunity.

I am accessing this forum via Outlook Express. What I find is that if I
check the posts at say 18:00 hrs. Then the next day at 09:00 hours, I don't
see the posts between 18:00 and midnight.

Thanks to this post, I thought about the problem and came up with the crude,
but effective solution of delting the newsgroup then resubscribed. However,
it took 3 hrs to populate the 55,000 posts.

Question is there a simpler way!

If you're using OE or Vista Mail... goto tools / options / read / and
uncheck the "get 300 headers at a time". The first time you do this you will
get a gazillion headers. Then delete most of the older ones. From this point
on you should get all new posts / replies when you check this group via OE
or Vista Mail.

Even checking once per day, with 300 checked, you will not get all new
headers. Way more than 300 per day are posted.
