Thank you to all that replied - you gave me some ideas....
I think when we were using Cool Edit Pro and trying some different things with file type preferences in Windows Media Player, something small (like you said) got adjusted and affected things.
With that idea, I went into Windows Media Player Help section and read a bit about Setting File Types, which said the following:
Other multimedia playback programs on your computer may interfere with your Player file types settings or prevent you from specifying Windows Media Player as the default player for a selected file type. To override the file types settings and specify Windows Media Player as the default player for all of the file types in the list, use the Set Program Access and Defaults feature in Windows (click Start, point to All Programs, click Set Program Access and Defaults, and then choose the Custom configuration that specifies Windows Media Player as the default media player).
So, I went to the Start Menu and into Set Program Access and Defaults, into the Custom menu and chose Windows Media Player (just as a guess...didn't know if it would work or really what I was doing, but I thought what the hey....). I tried inserting the sound files again, and low and behold it WORKED!! I haven't checked the previously created presentation yet, but will later.
I'm not really sure what I did to change things, but it seems to be working now . I will look into your link that you suggested anyway for future needs on my part.
Thanks again! I'll definitely come back here if I need more help.
Melanie
