Shading within the textbox. I created a border for my textbox and the
shading I wanted to fill inside the textbox extends outside. I was able to
do this all the time in Word 2003!
Text boxes, strictly speaking, don't have "shading"; they have "fill." Did
you select the color from the Colors and Lines tab of the Format Text Box
dialog? If you selected it from the Borders and Shading dialog, then you
have applied it to the paragraph the text box is in or anchored to.
