Text size is not adjustable on some web pages

Hi Stan :-)

There is no problem on my end that I can see. All looks as it should. Try
the following and see if it helps:

If you have a wheel on your mouse, hold down the Ctrl key and move the
wheel. This may get your fonts back to the size you want.

also.

Check in IE>Tools>Internet Options>General>Accessibility
and
Control Panel>Accessibility Options>Display

For normal viewing nothing should be checked in these sections.

Hope this helps :-)

My [view] [text size] doesn't seem to have any effect on some web
pages -- for screen or printer. On others it works OK.

Example of not working:
http://www.atomicarchive.com/Photos/LANL/Dominic.shtml

What explains the difference?

The designer has specified font sizes in pixels, rather than specifying
the font sizes as a proportion of the user's default font size, so IE's
View TextSize has no effect. The designer clearly does not care about
people who prefer larger or smaller fonts, about people who have larger
or smaller monitors, or about people who have higher or lower resolution
monitors.

You could complain to the webmaster, but they will probably ignore you.

You could also use a browser like Firefox, which can zoom the size of
text up and down, overriding the designer's font size specifications.

Can you change the font size of that page on screen and at the
printer? I can't and the next message in this thread says that the
problem is in the coding of the web page itself.

You can override this in IE - go to the Tools menu, choose Internet Options.
On the General tab, click the Accessibility button at the lower right. Tick
the "Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages" option. This will then allow
you to use the Text size options in the View menu to adjust the text size.

Hi Stan :-)

No..just that it did print clearly, but, no change in font size.

However, it would appear that the Accessibilities suggestion by Daniel
should work, as it does here now. Although I tried it yesterday when I was
testing it did not change the font size. But, it is possible that I set
something while testing yesterday which may have prevented it from working,
then I reset all the changes afterward. Thus, it allowed the
Accessibilities font changes to work today. I can make the text any size I
want, and will also print it out in the adjusted size.

Does this work for you as well?

Hope this helps :-)

Thanks Dan,

control the font size both on screen and printed.

As C A Upsdell alluded to the View, Text Size command can not
be used to override web designers' preferences, unless you use
the Accessibility dialog to tell IE that you do not want it to respect
such specifications. Similarly, notice that your font and color preferences
are only used either when web designers allow a browser default
to be used (e.g. by not specifying an attribute) or when you use
the Accessibility dialog to force IE to ignore such specifications.

File PrintPreview has a field (Scale) which lets you shrink or expand
the page, though this applies to graphics as well as text.

The [file][PrintPreview] of my Firefox worked to change the printer
text size. It also allowed me to print just selected text, but I had
to select the text prior to going to the PrintPreview window because
you cannot select text in that window. (The text is apparently graphic
at that point.)

I appreciate the help. I can now control text size both on-screen and
printed from both IE6 and Firefox.
