Text formatting ?

Hi all,
this is kind of embarrassing but one of the directors here at the
company, the only person using Outlook 2003 actually, has a problem with
composing text in Outlook. up until recently whenevber he typed :) it would
change into a smiley face but it no longer does this (as of a week ago) so I
chacked the email format and it is HTML... changed it to RTF and Plain text
but still no joy. Can anyone assist me in resolving this problem.

Thanks in advance,
Mitch...

Is he still using Word as his email editor? I think that only works when
you're using Word

It works in the Outlook editor, too.

SOunds like he disabled his autocorrect feature. If he uses the Outlook
editor to compose, then Tools>Options>SPelling>AutoCorrect is the place to
look. If he uses Word as his editor, then Tools>AutoCorrect Options is the
place.

Not with the default set of auto-correct options. I just checked here to be
sure. Some symbols are in the list like the trademark & copyright symbol but
not the smiley emoticon. Most likely it could be added, though.

Maybe I added it and don't remember. :-(

Thanks guys.
It was Word 2003 ! The option to compose in Word 2003 was turned off so I
put that back on and gave it a go and it worked. It also fixed the other
problem he was having, not sure who turned it off but he is very gratefull.

Thanks again !!
