Rich Text Format message issues TNEF?

Morning, i have a problem and was hoping someone may be able to help, i
have one user out of 330 using outlook 2007 and when they attach a file
to an email it appears with no icon or text but you can click on it and
it will highlight it with a box around the attachment.

I should point out we use Rich Text formatting by default via GPO. I
have proved the attachement is still there by clicking on it on the
recievers end but you kinda have to find it as its invisible. To
resolve this on a Temp bases under options changing the format to plain
moves it from the body to the attached box, then switching back to rich
text it appears.

very strange.

i found http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830302 detailing it could be to
do with Transport Neutral Encapsulation Format (TNEF) but the solutions
they suggested we can't change as GPO grey's out the options for
modifiying the default message format. And as it works on other PC's
fine there must be something else causing it.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled office but that has not helped. Any
other ideas would be great.

I don't know how it works on the other computers if they are in fact enabled
in Outlook to compose in RTF - this is the correct behavior for RTF
formatting. It should have an icon and the file name though.

did you compare the tools, options, mail format setting between computers to
see if they are identical?

i did compare what settings are enabled, most are defined by grou
policy, this happens on all email the user creates, they dont even nee
to enter an address in the to field, if they just try to add a
attachment it vanishes, then to get it back click the option tab in th
email and change the format for that message from RTF to HTML and i
appears, click back to the RTF format and its still not there. Howeve
if you click the plain text format and accept the warning about som
features wont be available and then click back to RTF the icon appears

This is a very strange work around and i haven't seen anything lik
this before since rolling out office 2007.

I have tried new profiles for the user and different users on the p
but everyone gets the same problem so i know its not a user/profil
issue and more software. I could re-ghost the machine but seems a bi
extreme to reslove a problem like this.

So it affects all users on this machine and its ok for the same users on
other machines? That means its something with the computer - while reimaging
should fix it (and might be faster), it would be nice to know what is
causing it.

Does this computer have any software that the others do not?
Did you try repairing the office install?

It is only the machine that is causing the issue, which makes it very
interesting, I did not try the repair function of office only
uninstalling it and a clean install using the CD rather than our
software deployment tool (radia). But the problem still persists.

The attachments are being sent and recieved by the recipients, but they
are hidden so you have to click round the screen to find it so it does
strip it out its just hidden, the MS link in my original post was
something i found about attachments being stripped out but thats not
the case as they are still in the email, tho it still might have
something to do with that?

The software between machines varies between departments, this machine
in question is the service desk team leader's however there are 2 team
leaders and the other will have the same software and is fine.

Thanks for the help so far, any thing else you think of would be
greatly appriciated
