Suddenly, HTML formatting is showing on my Outlook new mail messages composed
with HTML. How can I delete this without having to resort to plain text
emails?

Is it showing on messages you receive or messages you compose? If when you compose, does Alt+F9 hide it?

If messages you receive, what version of outlook? version of windows? do you have all the latest updates installed?

HTML markings appear in all MS Outlook 2007 emails I compose; Alt+F9 has
absolutely no effect on the message being composed. However, when I check in
messages sent, there are no HTML markings.

I use Microsoft Outlook 2007 and not Outlook Express, and I am using
WindowsXP with all updates installed that will install.

so its the recipients that see the 'markings'? What mail client do they use?

I did not say the recipients of my emails see HTML markings, I said I see
them when I compose my email messages. However, when I check messages sent
in MY Outlook, there are no HTML markings on the messages there. The
markings appear when I COMPOSE an email post not when one is received or when
I check my SENT file. Alt+9 does NOT remove the HTML marking. This is
something I can learn to live with if I have to, but it is annoying. To my
knowledge I did NOTHING myself to start HTML markings showing. I did run
diagnostic checks on my Outlook after I had done the usual "when in doubt
reboot" on both Outlook and my computer itself. I have not run a system
restore

Describe exactly what the "html markings" are. Outlook doesn't support any type of inline HTML editing, so its not typical HTML. If you want/need to post a picture so we can see what you see, you can use the picture library at xsolive.com. Or copy the text and post it here.

if you see formatting marks, like the pilcrow and dots for spaces, it's Ctrl+Shift+8 to turn it off.

Ctrl+Shift+8 did the trick! I had seen a post that said Ctril+Alt+* that of
course did not work because it had Alt instead of Shift. It took a while,
but we finally got to the solution of my problem. If at first you don't
succeed, don't give up. . . .

Thanks for sticking with me!
