text box white out

I am editing some slides that are written with white text on a dark
background. When you click on the text to edit it, the area around the text
becomes white, and the text becomes invisible. Is there a setting I can
change such that whenever I edit text (either in that document, or in all
presentations) the background color is something different than white?

I know I can temporary change the text color, but that is somewhat of a pain.

Okie,
Format - slide design - in the taskpane choose Slide Color Scheme, click on
the link way at the bottom to change the color scheme, and set your
background color to a color that's more contrasting with your text color.
