Text anims work when viewed through PP2007 prog, but not w/pp07 vi

I created a really nice pp show for my girl scouts end of year ceremony. It
looks great when I watch it using my PP2007 program. I wanted to give each
girl a copy of it the show. When I did "publish for CD" and it made a CD
with the show and the PP2007 viewer included, I tried viewing it that way (I
assume most parents don't own the full PP2007 prog). On the 1st few slides I
had the girls photos and names fading in then out. When I watched using the
viewer, all the names came up at the same time and just the photos faded in
and out. Why is this happening? Shouldn't the PP2007 viewer allow you to
view the slideshow EXACTLY the way you created it in the PP 2007 prog???

Are the names in SmartArt? SmartArt doesn't animate in the Viewer.

Otherwise, what exactly are the animation settins you've used on the names?
And are the names "manual" textboxes or placeholders or what?

The text is done with Word Art. The names themselves are animated. Should I
switch it to animating the BOX they are in instead??

Are the names in SmartArt? SmartArt doesn't animate in the Viewer.

Otherwise, what exactly are the animation settins you've used on the names?

When you package for CD, PPT converts the file to a 97-2003 format file. So
if you've used new 2007 features -- like glows and reflections and stuff --
on the text, that text becomes an image so it looks the same in the older
format.

Now, if you've added animations to those obects, but the objects become
images, then the animations disappear. I think you'll need to choose to
either animate or use the WordArt eye candy, but not both.

With some "IFs" one can use the new format pptx and the package for CD.
First of all it is necessary to have the Compatibility Pack for Office 2007
installed on the computer where the show will be shown.

It goes like this:
- Save the presentation as pptx and make a note where you saved it, you need
this file in a minute
- Use "Package for CD" and include the PPT-Player
- Click "Copy to folder"; when the assistent is finished, close the
presentation
- Start Windows Explorer and search for the folder you have just created
- Delete the presentation with the extension ppt
- Copy the presentation with the extenstion pptx into the folder
- In this folder search for the file "playlist.txt" and open it in Windows
Editor
- Change the extension of the presentation from "name.ppt" to "name.pptx"
- Save the txt-file and close the Editor

You really have to delete the ppt-file and replace it with the pptx-file. It
doesn't help to rename the ppt-file into pptx.

Now you can burn the content of the folder on a CD. Do not burn the folder
itself to the CD! Highlight all the files and burn them, the files have to
be stored on the root of the CD.

But Pia, I think the recipient must have the compatibility pack installed.
(My understanding is that the compat pack doesn't run from CD, so if you
don't have it installed, the Viewer cannot open PPTX files.)

Have you been able to test this on a machine that doesn't have any Office
products installed?

Okay, with that caveat, then yes, your technique works great!

I don't know of any method to avoid this. As far as I figured it out you
cannot burn the pack on the CD and persuade it to start automatically with
the viewer. It's a pity!

Yes, you did. I just missed it at first. Then I thought I'd go ahead and
post it just to reiterate that the compat pack has to be installed on the
recipient machine.

It is definitely too bad that the Viewer won't just open PPTX files and run!
