PDF file as object in PP2007

This might be a long shot. Is there any way to have a PDF file, inserted as
an object in PP2007, be launched and open when that slide appears in
slideshow mode?

If it cannot be done, this might be a cue for developers. I have coworkers
who want their PDFd CAD drawings (D size so quite big images) to appear
during the slideshow as open. They are not interested in linking to the PDF
and then linking back to the show. Another coworker also wants to have an
Excel SS be open in full screen mode while staying inside the PP slideshow
mode.

I do not know of a way to do this. Anyone else?

Yeah, set an object animation.

Insert the PDF into PPT using Insert | Object, from file.

Then in the Custom Animation pane, Add Effect | Object Action | Open.

Set the start to "with previous."

Hmmmm... I do not see any place in the Custom Animation pane where Add
Effect | Object Action | Open is a choice? What I see and did in PP2007 was:

Click on the inserted Acrobat icon after I inserted the file as an object
In the Custom Animation pane I chose Add Effect | Object Actions | Edit
Object. Then I chose Start with Previous and left the timing set to its
default of 0 seconds.

All that happens in slideshow mode is the Acrobat icon displays. Am I
doing something wrong? I have gone through a bunch of menus and cannot locate
an | Object Action | Open as a choice anywhere?

Yeah, set an object animation.

Hmmmm... I do not see any place in the Custom Animation pane where Add
Effect | Object Action | Open is a choice?

This should do:

- Insert / Object / Create from file
- Browse to the file and click on "OK"
- Animations / Custom Animation
- Add Effect
- Object Actions / Open

thanks for the effort Pia, but I do NOT have Open as a choice in the Object
Actions. I can only choose edit. Then, once I select edit, it gives me the
same animations object choices you would see for say a picture. None of the
choices include "Open" that I can find in any submenu. Can you please tell me
exactly what submenu or dialogue box you are in when you choose "Open" ?

How did you insert the PDF?

When I follow Pia's instructions (which is what I did here originally,
actually), I do have Open as an option.

I think I may have selected "show as icon" or something when I did this
first step:

- Insert / Object / Create from file

So can you give us the exact steps you're following to insert, so maybe we
can repro only getting "edit" as an object action option in the animation
pane here.

exactly what submenu or dialogue box you are in when you choose "Open" ?

I see it in

- Animations / Custom Animation

Than I click on "Add Effect" and the last option is

- Object Actions

There I have "Open"

For me it doesn't matter if I insert the PDF as "Show as icon" or not. I
also see no difference between "Insert / Object / Create from file" and
"Insert / Object / New". There should always be "Open" in the "Object
Actions".

Which PDF-Viewer do you have installed? I have Adobe Acrobat Reader - maybe
they behave different.

Pia and Steve:

THANKS for sticking with me on this one. Turns out, my coworker has the open
choice you describe; I do not. Our IT department is going to
deinstall/reinstall Office 2007 for me. I have had other anomolies in some of
the other MS Office 2007 Applications. So, this issue cemented the need to
have some attention paid to my machine here.
