Test AD 2003 - Forestprep Problem

I am doing a test upgrade of our forest/domain. I brought up a 2000 domain
controller in the root domain and got it sychronized (AD and DNS). I then
took it into a test network seperated from the production network. I seized
all of the FSMO roles and verified they were there. I enabled schema
updates to be made on the machine. Now comes the problem. When I run
/forestprep I get the error: Failed to transfer the schema FSMO role: 52
(Unavailable). The only Event Log errors I notice are pretty much all
related to not being able to communicate with other servers.
Any ideas here? I'm pretty confident that if done in the production domain
this would not happen, but I should be able to test it first.

Scott,

Seeing how you added your test DC into the production domain then removed it
to your lab environment for testing you will need to run a metadata cleanup
of the old production DC's. Even though you seized the FMSO roles it will
not advertise the roles until it performs one replication cycle with a
replication partner. It sees the other DC's out there but cannot communicate
with them. Run a metadata cleanup per 216498 and reboot. Then try again.
