Trying to seize fsmo roles. Have deleted the old DC with adsiedit and
removed active directory metadata. The server I'm trying to assign the
roles to is not connected to the old DC. I get the following error:

fsmo maintenance: seize schema master
Attempting safe transfer of schema FSMO before seizure.
ldap_modify_sW error 0x34(52 (Unavailable).
Ldap extended error message is 000020AF: SvcErr: DSID-032101FF, problem
5002 (UNAVAILABLE), data 8

Win32 error returned is 0x20af(The requested FSMO operation failed. The
current FSMO holder could not be contacted.)

Can't put the old dc online. Anyway to asign the fsmo roles to a new AD
DC. without first demoting the new DC?

Interesting, ntdsutil shouldn't do that, it should expect that error if you are
seizing...

What version (filever) of ntdsutil are you using?
