terms of use for guide book

I have read the terms of use for microsoft windows but i
still have a pressing question , I'm going to write a
quide for newbies relating to their computer and the
internet. My question is can i say things in the guide
for example "goto the windows update" , "you need to
update your windows", "how to use internet explorer"
basically it will be all text and no logo's or pictures
from any microsoft product(s). I will have things like
how to update your windows os or goto www.microsoft.com
for more information. It will be guide for people to
secure their OS and internet surfing. there will be no
adult content or adult content related , It will be
strictly a rated "G" guide. any help would be appreciated.

You can use words you write to describe Microsoft Windows,
but should have a note in the book to credit copyrighted
names and materials. You can even use screenshot taken from
your computer to illustrate your book, again giving credit.
Write your book as you want it, your publisher will edit it
to follow copyright law.

Instructions are not software, just don't cut and paste
Microsoft or any other work without giving proper credit.

Oh boy are you off! If you are using material that is copyrighted by
a person or company, you can't just "give them credit" for the
information. That's OK if you are writing, say, a research paper, but
not for a book.

If this book is to be used by others, the author has to get permission
to use ANY of the copyrighted material from the holders of the
copyright. Just giving them credit isn't enough.

I was putting together a presentation for a class I taught, and wanted
to use some pictures from an EMT manual in the slide show. I gave up
and didn't use them because of the hoops I had to jump through trying
to get permission from the publishers who made the book. It's a pain,
can be a lengthy process, may or may not be approved, and oh boy can
you get your @ss in a crack in you are caught using the materials
without permission.
