To install Remote Desktop Connection (32-bit computers)

1.. On the computer running Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000, insert the Windows XP Professional compact disc into your CD-ROM drive.
2.. When the Welcome page appears, click Perform additional tasks, and then click Set up Remote Desktop Connection.
3.. Follow the directions that appear on your screen.

Sorry David for my too many questions. My client situation is as follow:

1. She has xp home. No way of upgrading to pro at this time.

2. in the system properties and under remote there is only remote assistant
option with allow remote assistant invitation checked. There is no remote
desktop option.

3. Under remote assistance/advanced option a check on allow this computer to
be controlled remotely.

When I do remote desktop from computer it says " the client could not
connect to the remote computer. remote connection might not be enabled "

Any idea how to enable remote connection on my client computer?

An xp home computer CANNOT be a host in a remote desktop session. ONLY xp
pro can be a host.
Those directions are to install the remote desktop client and without an xp
pro box as the host the client part is useless.

Then you can't use remote desktop. Netmeeting or remote admin or pc
anywhere, etc.. will work fine.

XP home does not have remote desktop.

You need xp pro to host a remote desktop session. Without the host the
client part is useless.

XP home does not have remote desktop. It cannot host a remote desktop
session. Only XP Pro can.
