Terminal Services temporary client liense

I have Win2003 server, when I installed terminal server
few months ago, from add and removed program, click
windows component, I check Terminal server and terminal
server licensing, then I realized that I do not need the
terminal server licensing, so I uncheck again, now
everday when I use terminal server client from my XP
workstation, it gave me the error message " Your terminal
services temporary client liense will expired 7 days,
please contact your system administrator". next day will
say " ....will expired 6 days", what should I do ?

Need help, thanks a lots.

You should install and activate the TS Licensing Services, and
then purchase and install TS CALs.
Why did you "realized that I do not need the terminal server
licensing"???

Aaaaah, now I get it, maybe you only want Remote Desktop for
Administration, with 2 free connections, without licensing
requirements?
If that is what you want, then you should not have installed
Terminal Services at all. TS implies "Application Server" mode, so
uninstall it again. Remote Desktop for Administration is pre-
installed, you only have to enable it in System - Remote, just
like on XP.

When I was using NT2000 server with Terminal server
client, I did not have installed TS CALS, what different
between NT2000 server and NT2003 server?

Regarding licensing:

W2K Pro and XP Pro clients connecting to a W2K TS receive a free
TS CAL from the Licensing Server.

*No* clients connecting to a Windows 2003 TS receive a free TS
CAL. You can apply for a free transition TS CAL for every XP Pro
desktop that you owned on the date of release of Windows 2003: 24
April 2003.

I would read the following carefully, because you also have to
understand the difference between "Per User" and "Per Device"
licenses (for both 2003 server CALs and 2003 TS CALs) in order to
buy the type that is most profitable in your organisation:

windows 2000 professional machine, and they both can
terminal server into my windows 2003 server, no error
like " Your terminal services temporary client liense
will expired 3 days,please contact your system
administrator". so it'something on my XP machine, so I
uninstall Terminal server client from add and removed
program, reboot the machine then reinstall again, still
have same error, where is the terminal server licensing
on the registry ? any idea? I even use "Remote desktop"
connect to windows 2003 server still have same error, any
idea?

Lilian, removing the temporary license from the client will not
help you. In fact, it will cause you to loose the last 3 days of
your temporary license.
The fact that the other clients don't show this warning is
completely logical, since they just received their temporary
license, and will be able to connect with it for 90 days. Then
they will receive the same warning, and eventually be refused to
connect.
There is *no* way that you can connect with any client to a 2003
TS without a 2003 TS Licensing Server, which has 2003 TS CALs
installed on it, for longer than 90 days.

Did you ever read the FAQ I mentioned?

yesterday I try to use remote desktop connect to win2003
server gave me same error, I thought you mentioned to me
is free for XP machine, I just want Remote Desktop for
Administration, with 2 free connections, without
licensing requirements? that all I want.

OK, if remote administration is the only thing you want, then I've

I know terminal server gave each workstation 90 days
to connect, if login to different workstation then I
don't see the error message, so somehow in windows 2003
server register my workstation connection coming through,
but the funny things is when I use Remote Desktop
connection from XP machine then I still see those error
message, now it say" Your terminal services temporary
client will expire in 3 days, please contact your system
administrator to get a permanent liense", so next Monday
when I come to work, will down to 2 days, then 1 day,
then would I able to use Remote Desktop with the expire
message?

Sorry, but I give up.
I have already explained why a new workstation will not give you
the warning (yet). I have also explained twice that you have to
uninstall Terminal Services, since you only want Remote Desktop
for Administration. I don't know how to explain this better,
without repeating myself once more.

And no, you will not be able to connect from this workstation when
the count-down has reached zero days. The only solutions is to
uninstall Terminal Services from the server and use only Remote
Desktop, or buy and install licenses if you want Terminal
Services.
