Ten Mouse Cursor Problems

C

cmjaltx

While using the mouse (windows xp) I may encounter any of the below
conditions or a combination of many.

(1) Highlighting a sentence or paragraph may have to be accomplished several
times as it vanishes and have to start over prior to clicking copy. Occurs
on any webpage or in notepad, wordpad, works, office, wordperfect, any
editor in general, and Outlook Express wrinting a E-mail or a Newsgroup
Posting.

(2) Mouse cursor unmanageable. I will go to move the mouse to a position and
find that it is dancing along the topmost point of the display. When I do
regain control of the mouse cursor it then starts from the bottom and I have
to move it to the location, not from its original point. Do not understand
this occurrance as nothing was happening in the background and theres no
virus and no spyware.

(3) To select a begin point for the cursor you would simply left click the
screen in a editor and the mouse cursor should appear there instead of where
it was. This is logical, but this is not what is happening here. When I do
this click sometimes the sentence will highlight and sometimes both words or
just one word will highlight, I make several attempts to do the same click
and it alternates so I must be doing something right but the computer is
doing something wrong. Finally the click takes hold and the cursor is moved,
but it can happen again and again in the same page before I save the page.

(4) Timing a menu event seems a likely direction to slow down interaction
when the mouse hovers and when it grasps the hovering the action is
encountered. I have went to to many undesired locations when this happens
because it happens to fast for me. Slower mouse seems the answer but that
did not help.

(5) Using CTRL+C to copy and CTRL+P to paste works I have done this and
using alternate mouse right click menu Paste feature works as well, but when
it don't I must highlight the area once again and right click the area with
the mouse to get the menu to click Copy then go to Paste either using the
CTRL+P or mouse right click menu Paste feature as the original CTRL+C did
not see the action to copy the highlighted area and did not Paste the area
but perhaps pasted something else instead like what was in the Clipboard
instead.

(6) If when I highlight an area the mouse cursor happens off the right or
the left side of the window the system will change windows abruptly on me
and I get lost as to where I was and find pastes on the wrong page like
where the copy can from and that upsets the copy and closing the copy and
selecting NO to Save Changes is necessary but I have lost some copies as the
system could close Windows and this pops up many Save Copy windows and or
messages and I don't know when I got the right one saved and the copy
closed.

(7) Changing the mouse cursor to a position between characters once was
without trouble, now I can't get the mouse cursor to respond with accuracy
its either before or after the location I want it from my click aqnd I have
to click again and again to get the position correct, smaller characters
seem more of a problem that bigger ones or ones that stick out.

(8) The hesitating mouse hourglass sometimes takes 5 minutes to respond to a
windows explorer change and accessing Temporary Internet Files Folder seems
longer than 5 minutes. Animation could be doing this so I might consider
changing the hourglass out.

(9) Worse of all is the mouse cursor making the decision for me when I
select a option which has more options than a default access using the left
click to get to a menu for that choice to select a option and or type in a
folder name or filename. The cursor goes rampage and does the default action
on the right click.

(10) In WinTV2000 I capture the TV display in a side bar, the mouse cursor
is used to select a image and by also scrolling to the bottom from the top
or vice versa and right click holding the Shift+click for a menu will open
every image instead of popping the menu up to save the images, it does not
get to the menu before it has hyper reacted to the click and chose for me to
display the images and so this requires closing all images, if there are 50
or more this is time consuming, if to many the program will fail to respond
and a error report message will popup and this loses all the images entirely
when the program closes. [On A Similar Note] WinTV2000 run in MSN Messenger
and having setup the webcam and selected to view TV with WinTV2000 running
will show the TV Channel not webcam image and the image is reversed
backwards what is on the right is suppose to be on the left and vice versa.

I have plenty memory and lots of HD space and clean the files off TIF Folder
often so this is not the problem, but the cursor mouse is a Memorex Laser No
Ball and theres a wire not wireless, once I had installed a Wireless
Microsoft Mouse and it exploded from overheating and would no longer
function and Microsoft never sent me a form to return the mouse nor
corresponded regarding their exploding wireless mouse hardware.

I tried removing the mouse and the programs, when windows XP rebooted it
reinstalled the mouse and the problems are still present.

Have you tried a different mouse?

Also:
Run a full system virus scan with fully up-to-date definitions.

**It is very important to run the update for each program before running the
app/s to be sure you have the latest definitions.**
Run the programs in Safe Mode after assuring you have shut down all running
tasks except explorer or systray and all apps are fully up to date.
Remove your Temp Internet files: Right click IE. Under the General tab click
Delete Files, put a check in Delete all Offline..., click OK and close when
finished.
Delete all files in c:\windows\temp.

Download/run Cool Web Shredder from:
http://www.intermute.com/products/cwshredder.html

For Info on Cool Web Search variants:
http://www.richardthelionhearted.com/~merijn/cwschronicles.html

Download/install/run Ad-Aware SE to detect/rid of any other parasites/spyware
that may be installed. It can be obtained free from:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
After installing Ad-Aware, open it and click on the ref update to get the
latest up-to-date ref file, then run Ad-Aware and delete everything it finds.

Download/install/run Spybot - Search & Destroy:
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download
Run it at it's default settings until you learn an know more about it. Spybot
S&D is more of an advanced users tool and changing from the default settings can
be dangerous to the novice user. Items found in the default settings that are
RED can usually be safely removed. If you are unsure of a found item, do not
remove it and ask for help.

If you still have problems, download/run HijackThis from:
http://www.richardthelionhearted.com/~merijn/downloads.html
http://majorgeeks.com/downloads31.html

Copy HJT to it's own folder, this is where the log files will be saved. Run
HJT in Normal Mode.
Do not remove anything with it until you get advice on what to remove, HJThis
will list many apps that are needed along with the bad ones. Removing items
listed hap-hazardly without knowing what they are can/will create a royal mess.
Read the quick start here on how to create a log file that can be copied/pasted
into a forum that can provide assistance on removal of unwanted pests.
http://mjc1.com/mirror/hjt/#quick

Then post the logs to an appropriate forum where they specialize in
spyware/hijacker removal. Please read any sticky notes for proper posting which
are most commonly posted first at the top in each specific forum. Read any
information under each forum category name for information on what that
particular one is used for, look for the proper one that you post logs to.

After running the above and assuring you have a clean machine:
It's also a good idea to have a HOSTS file to block bad sites, scroll to HOSTS
File Manager here:

Download/install/run SpywareBlaster which stops the badboys before they even get
a chance to install:
