Temporary License About to Expire

Guest

I have Terminal Services running on a Win 2k server in application mode. The
server is up-to-date with all fixes and patches. All clients on the network
are running 2000 Pro. Most machines work just fine. Approximately 4
machines have been issued temporary licenses (I had to reinstall Terminal
Services about 3 months ago for another issue) that are about to expire. I
have tried deleting registry entries under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/MSLicenseing/Store. I have also tried
removing the computer from the domain and re-adding it. How can I get these
machines permanent licenses?Help!
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Anything in the EventLog on the TS?
Do you have a TS Licensing Server installed and activated?
Can the TS locate the LS?

Nothing in the Eventlog. No, I only have 1 server on the network running SBS
2000; the Licensing Server is not activitated on this server. Do I need to
activiate it? What will happen to my other clients that are working
correctly now?
THanks for your help.

There must be something in the EventLog, presumably EventID 1004:
cannot issue license, and EventID 1010: cannot locate licensing
server.

You must install and activate the TS Licensing Server on your
Domain Controller. As soon as the LS is activated, it will start
to issue licenses to your workstations. Since all of your clients
run W2K Pro, they will receive a free TS CAL from the Licensing
Server.

If you don't install and activate the LS, your other clients will
also stop working, as soon as their license expires (after 52-89
days).

OK. I activated the license server using the Microsoft Select or Microsoft
Enterprise agreement program. I still see 5 machines with temporary
licenses. Do I need to do anything else? Something to the client machines?
Thank you so much for your help.

The *first* connection from every client always uses a temporary
license. On the *second* connection, the temporary license is
exchanged for a permanent one.
Keep an eye on your EventLog, and check in the Licensing manager. You
should see the "Existing Windows 2000 .... TSCAL" count increase.
