Fuzzy Logic
I am trying to find any definitive articles on the size of the browser cache
and how it affects performance.
Microsoft appears to set it to some percentage of free hard drive space as
the default. On newer machines that I have setup this results in a cache of
over 1GB. This seems totally ludicrous to me. It would seem that a large
cache would actually degrade performance as IE/Windows has to keep track of
all the stuff in the cache and decide wether to get the information from
cache or the site. I personally run with a 32MB cache and that appears to
work just fine.
Any factual pointers? I have searched Google and Microsoft and have not been
able to find anything of use.
