Temporary Internet File location

In checking up on my son I noticed that his location for Temporary Internet
Files is different from mine. I'm running XP Pro and have three different
users. It's no big deal, I can move the location, but I'm wondering why when
I installed XP and set up the users that it didn't create the Temporary
Internet Files in the same place for all users. Mine is in Documents &
Settings\Tom\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files. My son's is in
Documents & Settings\Ben\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files (not in the
Temp folder).

Why would this happen? Shouldn't each user be created the same way?

The default location is...
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files
or
C:\Documents and Settings\Name here\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

%userprofile% is an environment variable that is the path to the user's home
folder.

Typing or pasting %userprofile% into the Start | Run box opens to the
Documents and Settings folder on whatever drive it is located on for the
logged in user. I.e. C:\Documents and Settings\Your Name Here

There should be a
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp folder
and a
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files folder
but not a
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files folder.

There should be no folders at all in
%userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp

Yours is incorrect and your son's is correct. I suspect that you have some
sort of malware.

What folder opens if you do this?
Open Internet Explorer | Tools | Internet Options |
General tab | Settings button | View Files button

Update your antivirus software and run a full system scan.

Update whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.
